What Converts Well
Standard text documents, reports, and manuals with basic layouts (selectable text, basic headings, and simple tables) yield the best results. Please note that complex layouts, overlapping elements, multi-column designs, unusual fonts, and interactive forms may require manual cleanup after conversion.
Scanned PDFs and OCR
Currently, if your PDF is a scanned image of a piece of paper (i.e., you cannot highlight the text in a PDF reader), the output Word document will simply contain those images. Extracting editable text from images requires Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which we plan to support in a future update. For now, we recommend using documents that contain native, selectable text.

Privacy and File Handling
We process your files entirely locally inside your web browser. Your PDF is not transmitted to a server for conversion. This means you do not have to worry about our retention policies—your data stays on your device. However, we always recommend reviewing any converted output for sensitive data formatting errors before you share the document.
Troubleshooting
- Conversion fails: Ensure the file is not password-protected. You must remove the password before using this tool if it is.
- Formatting shifts: Highly complex PDFs might not translate perfectly to Word's rendering engine. Some manual adjustment is normal.
- No editable text: Your PDF is likely a scanned image. You will need an OCR tool to extract the text.
- File too large: Try using our Compress PDF tool before converting to reduce memory strain on your browser.
